Reaching your Goals – a Guest Post by Amanda Valentine, Life Coach

Reaching your goalsSome thoughts on reaching your goals

Effective goals need to be realistic as well as challenging. Michelangelo said that “the greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we hit it.” To achieve this balance, it is important to ask yourself a few questions.

Once you have defined your realistic and challenging goal, it is important to have a plan of attack. A goal without a plan is simply a wish. So, how are you going to accomplish this goal? What small things can you do each day, or each week, to help you reach it? How will you know when you get there? What obstacles might there be? Having an action plan is vital for achieving your goal.

Track your motivation on a scale of 1 to 10. How willing are you to see this goal accomplished? How can you increase your confidence or willingness to 10? Find things that will keep you motivated. Maybe find an empowering quote and write it on your mirror with a whiteboard marker so you can see it everyday. Try finding a ‘buddy’ who can reach the goal with you, or keep you accountable along the way.

Remember, you can achieve what you never thought possible if you simply define your goal and have a plan on how to get there!
